The integrated water sampler is the main instrument for mesocosm sampling. It is lowered carefully into the bag and then swiftly taken back to the surface. In doing so, the scientists ensure that the acrylic cylinder collects water from all layers.
Still in the fjord, the content is tapped into vials and containers onboard the little sampling boats – and the water sampler can be filled again.
